2 Months In

We have been in Vancouver for just over 2 months now. I thought as we went, we would find a routine and kind of adjust a little, but to be honest, I think it's just getting harder to be away from home and have our family separated. We will try our best to be all together when we are able over the summer months and just try to find joy in the small things. We discovered a beautiful little pond at a park down the road and Kenzi loves feeding the squirrels. It gets her out of the apartment and gives her something to look forward to.

Kenzi continues to amaze us with her progress. She seemed to have more energy and a better appetite after the last round of chemo. We pray that it will continue as we move forward. She goes for an echocardiogram and blood work tomorrow. If her counts are up and all is well, she will start her next round of chemo on Friday. This is just a 2 day round, so we should be discharged on Saturday afternoon or Sunday. After this there is only one more 5 day round of chemo before they do more scans and Lord willing, surgery in mid-late July. This is a big milestone in her treatment plan, so we're excited and a little nervous, as it gets closer. Please continue to pray that the tumor shrinks at amazing rates and that the surgery is simple and successful.

As Kenzi and I watched church on Sunday we were reminded that there is so much to be thankful for even when times are hard. We made a list together:

  • We are thankful that we caught her cancer before it spread
  • A beautiful children's hospital and amazing doctors and nurses who care for us
  • Free healthcare
  • A beautiful apartment to stay at when Kenzi is not in the hospital
  • Our big and wonderful families who are helping us out in so many ways through this
  • A HUGE ARMY, including our church, school and community, both near and far, that are praying for us and supporting us in more ways than we even know
  • A loving God, who has all things in His hands
I could continue, but these are a few that stand out. We just want to share how blessed we feel. In hard moments, we try to remind ourselves of these things and look to God for the peace that only He can give.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.
