Round 5: ✔

Five rounds of chemo done and one more to go before surgery! This is a big milestone that we've been working towards and I can't believe it's almost here. Kenzi's last round was 2 days and not as smooth as it has been in the past. She receives so much fluid as part of the chemo and had a bit of fluid overload. She had some laboured breathing on the first night, due to some fluid in her lungs, but the doctors and nurses were quick to give her medicine to correct that. Wes and the other kids came down on Saturday and brought Kenzi's bird along, so we were hoping we would be discharged that day, but it didn't happen. They wanted to monitor her one more night and then on Sunday before we left she needed a blood transfusion, which takes about 3-4 hours. It was Father's day and we were anxious to be together, so it was difficult to be patient. Once we were discharged it was so wonderful to be all together. We spent a quiet afternoon together and headed to a beach on Monday. Kenzi was feeling good for the most part, but she gets tired quickly and sometimes carsick, so there's always a reminder that things aren't what they should be. I headed home with the other kids on Tuesday for some appointments back in Vernon, and Wes and Kenzi had a few uneventful days at the apartment in Burnaby.

Kenzi's next chemo starts on Monday, July 5th. They pushed it back a few days to work around her scans that are coming up. She has a PET scan and an MRI when her chemo is done and then the doctors will sit down as a whole team to come up with the plan moving forward. We should find out at this point if she will need radiation or not and her surgery will most likely be in the last week of July. They called in a surgeon from VGH to take part, who has more experience with removing tumors from chests, because apparently they aren't very common in children. We are so thankful for the resources here and for such amazing care. Please pray for great results from her scans and that she won't need radiation. We are both excited and anxious to see the results.

We are continuing to take it one step at a time, relying on God to carry us through this. We know that this is in His hands and find so much comfort in that. He has been answering our prayers through this. It's more difficult for Kenzi now that it's summer time and she sees all that she's missing out on. Also, the weight of her diagnosis and the severity of it has been hard for her to process. Please pray for peace and comfort for her. We are so blessed by everyone around us and the outpouring of love and the prayers being sent up for us. We are so grateful for you all. ❤

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent. ~ Exodus 14:14
