Round 8: ✔

Another 2 weeks have come and gone and we're grateful for progress being made. We spent almost the whole time together as a family and it's been wonderful. We explored Lynn Canyon, went to the Abbotsford Airshow, celebrated Linden's 9th birthday and spent some time at White Rock. We want to make the most of our summer and enjoy these moments together.

Kenzi's chemo was delayed 2 days because her platelets were too low, but we were told that is to be expected the further we get into treatment. Wes came with her last Friday to start chemo and I came on Sunday to trade places. She just finished her last dose today and is receiving fluid overnight before we are discharged tomorrow. Kenzi is feeling well and is mostly in good spirits, which we are thankful for. We have one more round before they repeat the scans and do surgery, Lord willing, the middle of September.

Wes headed home to Vernon on Sunday with Linden, Ayden and Beckham. He called several times along the way to tell us about the fires along the highway, the smoke and the "night" skies at 4 pm. He made it over the Coquihalla before they closed it Sunday evening. The fire situation is crazy right now and it's hard to fathom when I look out the hospital window at sunny, blue skies. Although our house is fairly far from the fire, many of our friends and family are evacuated right now, so please pray for all those who are affected by and fighting the fires.

After a lot of discussion and prayer, Wes and I decided to move our whole family to Vancouver for the remainder of Kenzi's treatment. The past few months have been extremely difficult, but one of the hardest things has been living apart. We noticed it was not only taking a toll on us, but our kids also. This cancer is a big part of our lives right now, but we don't want it to get in the way of happy moments we can still have. We are moving into Ronald McDonald house at the end of August and plan on doing distance learning with the kids. We are still figuring it out as we go, but are feeling positive about this decision and the memories we can make here together. We even bought umbrellas to make it official! Wes will have to go back occasionally until the fall work is complete, but now we won't have to stress about the kids getting sick at school and not being able to visit or driving through the snow, come October.

With winter coming it would have been difficult for Wes to run his winter maintenance. Snow plowing means being on call 24/7 and since I can't have all the kids in Vancouver by myself, we would have to separate our family, hardly seeing each other and Wes would have to have someone living in the house so he could leave the kids to go to work unexpectedly at 3 am. To hire someone to run it could end up costing us money if it doesn't snow and the insurance rates are so high, it's also a big risk. This is why Wes decided to put that part on hold this year. His customers have been very understanding, but it's been difficult for him to see the company that he's worked so hard to build up, take a bit of a nosedive this year. Wes works hard, but has always made his family a priority and we are so thankful for that.  The financial help we have received is such a blessing and relieves us of a huge burden. We are so humbled and grateful for all of you that have helped support us so he can continue to make us his priority, especially now, when we need him most.

When times are hard, we see God sending us reminders that He is there, whether it's a message from a friend, the perfect verse that we needed to read or just a song on the radio. These little reminders and your prayers keep us going, so thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 💗

Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations ~ Ephesians 3:20-21

  1. So thankful for your family's love and wisdom to stick together. We endured only a few weeks of hospitalization for our daughter at Toronto's Sick Kids, but the toll is real, and the benefit of being together will be golden. "It won't be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ - eternal and glorious plans they are - will have you put together on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes he does." (1 Peter 5:10-11, The Message) Praying for you!
